Join us on a leisurely 12 day journey to experience the brilliance of autumn in the heart of Italy. We have selected places of the most exquisite natural beauty at one of the most alluring times of the year, Autumn, when the crowds are less, weather divine, shopping fabulous and the countryside is awash with the dazzling colours of the harvest. Focusing on culture, history, gardens, wine and gourmet food we explore the Amalfi Coast where villages cling audaciously to the cliff faces. From our base in Positano we take a ferry trip to the romantic Isle of Capri, ramble through the medieval town of Ravello, visit the remarkable site of Pompeii which provides a vivid impression of life as it was in a Roman city. The Etruscan civilisation from 9th to 2nd century BC shaped the Roman culture and has influenced the Italian way of life ever since. The extraordinary frescoed tombs, the unmistakable Maremma landscape, the dying village and the evocative and unusual gardens all evoke the mysterious Etruscan world.

continued from column 1 ... The wealth and power of the families of the Renaissance was integral in the rise of Florence. From our base in Chianti we explore some of the elegant villas and magnificent gardens of Florence. In Positano and Florence there will be ample free time to linger and savour the delights of these alluring and fascinating medieval cities. Of course as with any Gourmet Garden Tour we will include a cooking lesson learning how to make local specialities and dinner. From the sensuous south to the sophisticated north and the Chianti we sample the distinctive food and wines of each region while the grape harvest is in full swing.
